OUR MISSION
The mission at Boots For Troops is to uplift and empower the over-all morale and mental well-being of deployed service members defending our freedom.
In 2015 Founder Jimmy Rogers and his wife Lindsey came up with the idea of Boots for Troops while Jimmy was serving in the United States Navy stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Jimmy was in his last year of service, but was very passionate about staying connected to the armed forces after separation and giving back to the men and women that had served before him, the ones he served with and the ones who would serve after him.
While deployed in 2015 Mr. Rogers noticed a need. While he was lucky enough to receive care packages from back home, some of his shipmates did not. Jimmy specifically remembers one day opening a package. It felt like Christmas morning to him and everyone was excited to receive mail. However, he noticed a few service members in his work center had nothing to open. Another key factor was Jimmy noticed the packages that were sent were usually mass produced or full of items that the service members didn’t need or want. The impact could be better he thought. This prompted Jimmy to develop a custom care package program. Every single care package would be built to the interest in needs of each individual, and in addition to that, each package would come with a new pair of boots. The boots would be Jimmy’s personal twist on the program. Boots For Troops care packages are made to touch the hearts and minds of each recipient. They actually feel the love when they open the package and realize that specific package was made with love just for them.
He shared the idea with his wife Lindsey who loved it. From his experiences of being deployed Jimmy understands the hardships and challenges deployments present. Jimmy strongly felt he can make a difference in the moral and welfare of deployed military members.
During his 2015 deployment Jimmy decided he didn’t want to wait any longer to launch Boots For Troops. On that ship he worked vigorously, through e-mail with his wife, and using the minimal resources available to him, to form Boots For Troops. His vision for Boots For Troops was to uplift and empower the overall morale and mental well being of our deployed service men and women. With a bit of help stateside from his wife, he secured his Certificate of Formation by the state of Texas on June 3rd 2015, and soon after received its 501c(3) status from the IRS as a tax-exempt organization.
In the first year of operations Boots For Troops raised over $100,000 dollars to support their care package program. You may be asking why is it called Boots For Troops? Here is the coolest part; each package includes a new pair of personal boots selected by the service member receiving the package. Jimmy wanted to put his own twist on the care package program, by sharing his love for cowboy boots with those who pay the costs for our freedom.
Today the organization is operating and striving to continue to grow its programs, and keeping the focus on helping those who serve.
