Boots For Troops Funds Emergency Travel for Soldier in Need

A deployed service member with a Boots For Troops care package

PR Newswire reported the story of U.S. Army SPC Cadence Davie, who contacted Boots For Troops from a deployment in Iraq after a Red Cross message: her mother had died suddenly. The military could get her stateside. She still needed a way to cover the roughly 950-mile drive from North Carolina to Rhode Island for the funeral, after funeral costs had already hit the family.

Boots For Troops rented a van and sent gas cards so Davie and her family could make the drive together. Davie said her roommate had told her about the organization, and that the shop paid for travel and gas, checked in during the trip, and treated the family with care at a hard time.

The release said she was the 53rd service member the travel program had brought toward home since 2015. The work is the same job now: when a junior enlisted service member needs to be with family, the shop books the trip and takes that burden off their shoulders.
